EP // Kokoroko – Kokoroko [Brownswood Records]

kokoroko - kokoroko

The long awaited EP from Kokoroko is finally out on Brownswood Recordings!

Following the deserved success of their song “Abusey Junction” on the compilation We out Here” on the label of Gilles Peterson, Brownswood Recordings, Kokoroko released their first EP on Brownswood Records for a perfect mix of AfroBeat / Ethio Jazz.
The London based 8-piece band, with this self-titled EP (meaning Be Strong), delivers 4 tracks surrounded by uplifting horns, smooth guitar, and harmonized voices.
As Edgeworth ( Percussion) mentioned: “We didn’t want it to sound too clean – that doesn’t really fit into the London sound …we wanted it to sound rough, like going out and hearing music pushed through speakers or the energy of people dancing at afrobeat parties: its music we’ve seen work on dancefloors”.¹
The result is brilliant and we’re now waiting with excitement for a long length project.
